Syrian man Arrested After 11-Year-Old Girl Stabbed to Death in Broad Daylight in Utrecht, Netherlands.

A Syrian immigrant has been arrested following the stabbing death of an 11-year-old girl in broad daylight in the Dutch town of Nieuwegein.
The tragic event occurred around 3:00 PM local time (2:00 PM GMT) on Saturday afternoon. Reports indicate that the young victim was outside in Utrecht, approximately 30 miles from Amsterdam, when she was attacked.
Despite the swift response from emergency services, they were unable to save her life, according to the police.
Authorities have detained a 29-year-old man, and the ANP news agency confirmed he is originally from Syria. They also reported that police are investigating claims that the suspect appeared “confused” in the days leading up to the incident.
At this time, police have not disclosed the motive behind the attack.
A statement from Utrecht regional police explained: “The suspect, aged 29, was arrested nearby based on information provided by bystanders and others.”
On Sunday, photos from the scene showed police examining a shed roof close to where the incident occurred.
In the wake of the tragedy, a memorial of flowers, teddy bears, and cards has begun to form at the location.
Utrecht, the fourth-largest city in the Netherlands, is home to the country’s largest university, Utrecht University, along with several other higher education institutions. Due to its central location, the city serves as a major transport hub, featuring the busiest railway station in the Netherlands.
