Panasonic HDC-HS300 Batterys

Looks like if you buy a Panasonic camcorder after June 2009, the replacement battery's will not work as Panasonic replace the port on the back of the camcorders with a oblong port the old power port was round.

So do you guys know if a battery that can be used with the TS300 that's more mAh than 1700 but that doesn't need the Panasonic VW-VH04 Battery Pack Holder Kit?

the only real alternative that I have seen anyplace but have not used, is this piggy back battery, which you plug an original Panasonic battery into the back of a special battery, The built in encoded chip is then read from the original so the camcorder thinks the battery is an Panasonic battery.

So I got an Empire BLI-307PB piggy back battery for the VW-VBG130 that came with my HDC-SD9 and it seems to work well. Apparently, it uses the microchip in the original battery so it can communicate. It extends the original battery VW-VBG130 battery by 1100mAH making it a 2420mAH battery. It fits in the camera fine, except is't a little thicker and I can't close my LCD flush like with only the original battery, but for $34.95 shipped I can live with it because there are no generics because of the proprietary battery microchip.

can you use the piggy back battery after the original battery is run down? In other words, could you use your original battery first, then go to the piggy back arrangement later? My preference would be to use the original-only until I had no other choice.

Also, does the remaining-battery minutes indicator work with the combo and how many minutes do you get with both fully charged?

I appreciate that some folks may want extended battery life to cover some events non-stop. Presumably, these would also be occasions which are compatible with the extra bulge or space used by the larger battery.

The VW-VBG130 a bit pricey, and I wish other manufacturers would give a cheaper alternative. But the life is long enough, the replacement is fast enough, and the size is hard to beat. My first fear was that Panasonic would discontinue it with the SD1, and require different batteries for new models, so I bought 5 at the lowest prices I could find. Three turn out to be enough for any single day's occasion. The other two remain in reserve.

Has anyone here tried this piggyback battery and if so can you provide us with your experiences? Specifically, I'd like to know if you can use this with an almost dead primary battery. Rather than assemble this odd combination from the get-go, I'd like to use the primary first then resort to the combo only when I have to.

Or if instead you've used this combo with both freshly charged, can you give us an idea of how long (in minutes) the combo will last? Thanks.

I'll answer your question. They can be separated and only used when your main battery dies out but in the instruction sheet it recommends leaving the battery on for better balance of battery life because if you use them separately you end up loosing some charge to the empty original battery taking the power. I've used the combo together and not separate for about 4 hours before it died on me.
